Meet the Founders
Madeleine Maceno-Avignon
Country Director and Co-Founder
Madeleine is the Country Director of FCH and Co-founder of COFHED. In 2001, Nicaise Avignon and Madeleine Maceno-Avignon returned to their homeland of Haiti with the purpose of engaging Haiti’s rural communities. In 2003, they partnered with the village of Lougou to begin community-led initiatives aimed at long-term development and holistic transformation. Today, Madeleine sits on the Board of Directors of Fondation COFHED Haïti and continues to come alongside rural Haitian communities to foster change from within.
Nicaise Avignon
Executive Director and Co-Founder
Nicaise is the Executive Director and Co-founder of COFHED. He sits on COFHED’S Board of Directors, largely overseeing the organization’s U.S. Operations while maintaining continued involvement in developing and carrying out a vision for self-sufficiency and transformation in Haiti’s rural communities. Nick is driven by the deep desire to grow Haitian resilience and witness sustainable change in the spiritual, economic, social and environmental factors affecting the lives of Haiti’s citizens.

Administrative Coordinator
AnnaMarie serves as COFHED’s Administrative Coordinator, operating as the point of contact for the organization’s U.S. Operations. She began working for COFHED in June 2019, but has been a part of COFHED’s journey since 2012. She joined COFHED out of an interested in community-led economic development and a deep admiration for the country of Haiti.
