2020 Virtual Gala Highlights
Dance Performance from Haiti
Students from La Petite Academie in Lougou, some of whom were the first students to start the school in 2006, will be performing a cultural dance during the event, known as the Congo dance. We look forward to this time of celebration, traditional music and dancing. The event will also feature a message from the trainees participating in COFHED’s Train the Trainer program and from women in Lougou about their successful business endeavors.
Update from Madeleine Maceno-Avignon and Nick Avignon
Madeleine, Co-Founder and Country Director of COFHED will be sharing a message on the community engagement model of COFHED and the successes and triumphs of the change makers in our partner communities. We will also hear from Nick Avignon, Co-Founder and Executive Director of COFHED, sharing about COFHED’s unique approach to community development.
Keynote from Rebecca Obounou
Rebecca Obounou is the Assistant Dean of Social Innovation at the MIT Public Service Center and founder of Communities for Haitian Entrepreneurs, Inc. Inspired by her experiences as a Haitian-American who was born in the US but raised in Haiti as a young woman, she founded CHES in 2008. Her time in Haiti taught her that the most vulnerable Haitians seek dignified jobs before they seek charity. This realization shaped her life’s trajectory. She earned her undergraduate degree in Management from Bentley University and holds a Master in Business Administration from Babson College.
